New DAILIES AquaComfort Plus ® now available - the first ever lens featuring triple action moisturising technology
The latest addition to the DAILIES® family - DAILIES AquaComfort Plus is now available to order. DAILIES AquaComfort Plus is available alongside the current market leading Focus® DAILIES® All Day Comfort that comes in spherical, toric and progressive versions. New DAILIES AquaComfort Plus are premium lenses primarily intended for contact lens wearers with higher comfort expectations, for those who have previously experienced comfort issues, as well as potential new wearers. As the first and only lens containing CIBA VISION's unique triple action moisturising technology DAILIES AquaComfort Plus lubricates, moisturises and refreshes for outstanding comfort throughout the day.
Studies show that until now lack of comfort is the number one complaint of contact lens wearers1, and that 47 percent of all contact lens dropouts are due to comfort issues2, DAILIES AquaComfort Plus lenses are addressing a significant unmet need for contact lens wearers. With new DAILIES AquaComfort Plus lenses, moisturising agents are released with every blink, helping to support the function of the tear film and providing outstanding comfort throughout the day3.
Three components contribute to the Triple Action Moisture;
HPMC (Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) lubricates the lens for instant comfort at the start of the day. It is present in the packaging saline and coats the lens on insertion to lubricate the lens and provide outstanding initial comfort.
PEG (Polyethylene glycol) is a hydrophilic wetting agent that contributes to active moisture throughout the day. It is released from the lens early in the day, and also has a high affinity for PVA so binds to it for release later in the day.
PVA (Polyvinyl alcohol) is currently used in Focus DAILIES All Day Comfort lenses. In new DAILIES AquaComfort Plus PVA is also used, though it's effect is significantly different. The PVA in DAILIES AquaComfort Plus is much higher molecular weight meaning it is released later in the day, and there is also up to 5 times more release than in Focus DAILIES All day Comfort. The presence of PEG molecules bound to PVA also mean it has enhanced hydrophilic properties. PVA is slowly released from the lens by blink activation to refresh the lens until the end of the day.
In clinical studies, patients preferred new DAILIES AquaComfort Plus lenses by four-to-one versus Focus DAILIES All Day Comfort for overall comfort4. To satisfy the various comfort and range expectations of patients, CIBA VISION will continue to offer its Focus DAILIES with AquaComfort lens, giving eye care professionals two high-quality daily disposable spherical lens options, as well as a toric and progressive option that all include proven moisturising agents.
Practitioners have a great opportunity to increase their revenue by introducing the premium DAILIES AquaComfort Plus lenses to their patients. Having a range of daily disposable lenses to choose from allows practitioners to meet the needs of all their patients.
New DAILIES AquaComfort Plus lenses are available from +0.50D to +6.00 D in 0.25D steps; from -0.50D to -6.00D in 0.25D steps, and from -6.50D to -10.00D in 0.50D steps. They are available with a diameter of 14.0 mm and a base curve of 8.7 mm and feature the VISITINT® handling tint to allow for easy insertion and removal of the lens.
With the introduction of DAILIES AquaComfort Plus lenses, CIBA VISION is also introducing several changes to the DAILIES brand and packaging. DAILIES AquaComfort Plus lenses feature updated packaging, and this is the first CIBA VISION product that features the new CIBA VISION corporate logo. Throughout 2008 CIBA VISION will continue to roll out the new logo on all its products.
