Free Optical Assistant training module worth approximately £70
In many practices, optical assistants can play a key role in growing practice revenue by discussing additional products with patients, and this is certainly the case when it comes to contact lenses. Consumers often have little awareness of their potential suitability for contact lenses or of how soft and comfortable they are. Having all team members mention the possibility of contact lenses either before or after an eye examination can help save time for the optometrist in the consulting room.
This can be a problem if the team are not confident enough or trained to discuss contact lenses with patients. CIBA VISION is proud to be offering a DVD – “The Optical Assistant’s Guide to Contact Lenses” featuring the popular training expert Sarah Morgan at no cost to its customers. After watching the DVD, staff should be able to confidently handle routine enquiries, discuss the benefits of contact lenses, identify a suitable spectacle prescription and discuss when one lens type may be more suitable than another.
The DVD features video footage of real practice situations and covers areas such as:
- astigmatism and presbyopia
- what happens in the consulting room
- different types of lens materials
- the importance of aftercare
- different types of lens care solutions
- ordering contact lenses
On completing the DVD staff can complete a short quiz to receive a certificate stating they have completed the course, and this entitles them to some free FreshLook® ONE-DAY coloured contact lenses.
The DVD has been made in conjunction with Replay Learning and will be available free of charge from CIBA VISION. It will soon be available to order from the CIBA VISION website and will come with an accompanying handbook for easy reference in the practice.
