Extra cyl power means even more astigmats can now wear Focus® DAILIES® TORIC with AquaComfort™

On October 16th CIBA VISION launched the -1.50D cylinder power in Focus® DAILIES® TORIC with AquaComfort™ to complement the -0.75D cyl power. This can effectively be used to fit patients with cylinders of up to -2.25D which represents 94% of astigmatic patients. With two axes at 180 and 90, the same as the -0.75 cylinder, the Focus® DAILIES® TORIC with AquaComfort™  covers about 80% of astigmatic patients who have cylinder axes at or near 90 and 180, +/- 20 degrees. The spherical powers are from +4.00 to -8.00.

Focus® DAILIES® TORIC with AquaComfort™ are the only toric lenses enhanced with a blink-activated moisturiser release system. Poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) is released from the lens to the eye as the wearer blinks which helps to stabilise the tear film and improve end of day comfort.

The dynamic stabilisation design, incorporating double thin zones and a toric back surface enables one base curve of 8.6 to fit the majority of patients. The tri-curve design ensures a consistently thin, comfortable edge regardless of power. There are no orientation markings as there is no need to compensate for lens rotation, resulting in less chair time. Like all CIBA VISION® daily disposables, they are made by the unique LightStream Technology which ensures high quality and reproducible lenses.

GfK market data tells us the toric market is growing strongly and one day and toric contact lenses are the two segments where European practitioners expect to see the biggest growth in fits. In the UK 36% of the population are astigmatic and not correctable by spheres whereas torics currently represent only 12% of the total lens market. The value of this opportunity represents an additional £91.3 million of sales to UK practitioners.

The ideal patients to fit with Focus® DAILIES® TORIC with AquaComfort™ are

  • Astigmats wearing spherical daily disposables for convenience
  • New wearers and former drop-outs
  • Existing wearers with comfort issues
  • Patients with ocular allergies
  • Monthly toric wearer
